All Programs open in Other Program – How To Fix .exe extension issue

How to Fix the issue if All Programs (.exe) open in Other Program or Wrong Application(Format). Or if EXEs are not opening at all. When I accidently set VLC media player to be my default application launcher then i faced this problem as all programs started to open in VLC Player. So i searched around the internet and tired to find the solution of this problem and fortunately I found a very simple and easy yet official method to fix this Problem. Here it is , I thought i should share it with other and save other some time and effort they may put searching for the solution by scouring the websites over the internet.
There Are Two Methods to do it

1. Let it be Fixed Automatically
Download this software and run it will fix the problem automatically

2.Do it your self Manually

To resolve this problem, reset the registry subkey for the file association of the .exe file back to the default setting. To do this, 

Follow these steps:

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Open the Task Manager
  • Click File , press CTRL and click New Task (Run…) at the same time. A command promptopens.

  • Type notepad



  • Copy and Paste the following text 
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]
    
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]
    
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithList]
    
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithProgids]
    "exefile"=hex(0):
    
  • Go to File menu and click Save as
  • Select All Files in the Save as type list, and then type Exe.reg in the File name box.
  • Select Unicode in the Encoding list. Save it and remember the file location.
  • In Command Prompt window, type and open REG IMPORT [filepath]Exe.reg

( input your Exe.reg file location (e.g. C:\Exe.reg)
  • Click Yes, and then click OK.

Restart the computer to restore the program icons to their original appearance.


For Windows XP :

  • Click Start, then click Run.
  • In the Open box, type explorer and then click OK.
  • Navigate to the Windows directory (e.g. a typical path may be C:\Windows) and locate regedit.exe.
  • Right-click on regedit.exe and select Run as. Uncheck "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" and click OK.
  • Using Regedit, locate and then click on the following registry key:
    HKeyCurrentUser\Software\Classes
  • On the left panel, right-click on the following registry subkey: '.exe'
  • Select Delete and then click OK.
  • On the left panel, right-click on the following registry subkey:
    'secfile'
  • Select Delete and then click OK.
  • Close Registry Editor.
